CULLMAN, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama church is replacing a century-old pipe organ after a fire. Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Cullman realized it need a replacement for the antique instrument in September.

A fire in April meant that it had to be removed. Now there’s a yawning gap in the choir loft, and the church is in a yearlong process of having a new organ built and installed.

Church development director Keith Ellard says the project will cost almost $800,000, and members hope to have a new organ in place in a year.
