ALABAMA (WDHN) — Alabama Power customers can expect a refund back this summer on their bills, reports say.
According to AL.com, on Tuesday, the Alabama Public Service Commission voted to approve reimbursement to Alabama Power customers in August. This was after the utility reported that it was above the allowed rate of return range by $62 million in 2022.
Since customers typically use more power during summer months, commissioners voted to approve the refunds in August.
There’s no information available on how much the refund would help benefit individual customers. In December, Alabama Power announced a third rate increase citing federal mandates, inflation, and economic conditions in 2022, according to AL.com.
The average customer is paying about $22.81 more per month for electricity in 2023 than they did at the beginning of the year.
Alabama Power has programs available to help customers with payment assistance, winterization tips, time advantage rate options, and more.
