DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Are you headed out to the grocery store this weekend? The Wiregrass Area Food Bank needs your help.
Executive Director with the Wiregrass Food Bank, David Hanks said they are in need of canned goods to deliver to the victims of Hurricane Ida.
He said after many food banks near the coast were compromised during previous storms, Feeding America decided to set a backup inventory for storms that were moved back from the coastline in order to have a certain amount of space between the coastline, and the food source. Hanks said they will be sending canned goods to Mississippi to help supplement their inventory.
“We help provide the front line feeding groups like Red Cross, Alabama Baptist Association, Methodist groups, Luthern groups with their canteens, feeding people going into the communities,” Hanks said.
Hanks said giving back doesn’t take much, it’s as simple as picking up one or two cans while you’re out grocery shopping. He said to keep in mind easy to eat and easy to open are the best in this situation.
