DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Future Masters has been held at Dothan Country Club since its inaugural year in 1950, but next year it will be relocated to Highland Oaks.

The change is because Dothan Country Club will undergo a complete course redesign.

Next year the course will celebrate its centennial.

It has been more than 20 years since the course was last renovated.

Golf course architect Billy Fuller says golf has changed dramatically since it was last designed.

This renovation is an opportunity to restrategise play at Dothan Country Club by creating different slopes, moving bunkers, changing tees and more.

“The more memorable a golf course is when you walk off number 18, if you can remember the golf holes and the golf shots, that’s a great compliment to the architect, so that’s a big piece of our goal,” Fuller said. “I try to create as much memorabilia in the experience of playing the game.”

The project will begin in November and the course is expected to reopen in the fall of 2023.
