HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — The Houston County Lions have found their next head football coach.

Wednesday, the school announced that they have hired former Slocomb assistant, Jake Allen to lead its football program.

Before his time at Slocomb, Allen was an assistant under Michael Atkins for the lions from 2015 to 2020.

Houston County’s former coach, Chip Harris, left the program to take a job at Daleville as an assistant.

This will be Allen’s first head coaching gig in the Wiregrass, but he has experience as a player at the professional level spending time with the Green Bay Packers in the NFL.

Before his time in the pros, Allen played at Mississippi Community College before transferring to a Division III school at Mississippi College.

Allen will also assume the role of Houston County’s athletic director.
