Another child under five dead from COVID-19, ADPH says

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDHN) — Another child under the age of 5 has died from COVID-19, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.

Ryan Easterling, director of Health Media & Communications, said the patient, somewhere in the 0-4 age range, had an underlying condition prior to their death.

HIPAA guidelines prevent the ADPH from saying much more about the death, but the department did say this was not related to multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), a condition that develops in child COVID-19 patients.

Previously, the ADPH reported the deaths of an infant and teenager from COVID-19 in Alabama earlier this month.
