HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Clinical trials are currently underway for an omicron-specific COVID vaccine.

Pfizer and BioNTech announced that they have started testing a modified COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the super-contagious omicron variant.

The drugmakers said they will test up to 1,420 healthy adults. These adults are ages 18 to 55. Pfizer and BioNTech said those people will be divided into three groups, the fully vaccinated, the fully vaccinated and boosted, and the unvaccinated.

This is in order to evaluate how effective the modified vaccine will be against the omicron variant specifically.
