SLOCOMB, Ala. (WDHN) — Slocomb High School’s spring football game has been canceled, according to Coach Richard Tisdale.
Friday’s game was canceled since the student body had to move to virtual learning after a rapid spread of COVID-19.
The day the change was announced, Superintendent Becky Birdsong said around eight to 10 cases were reported among students. Since the virus appeared to infect more efficiently, Birdsong said the students may have been infected by a more contagious variant.
According to the Alabama State Department of Education, there are 16 cases in the Geneva County Schools as of this report. This is the highest total among our local public schools.
