DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Flu season is just around the corner and one medical expert from the Wiregrass wants you to stay healthy and well.

Dr. George Narby, the Chief Medical Officer at Southeast Health, encourages everyone in the Wiregrass to get their flu shot. He said the flu vaccine is safe.

According to Narby, the vaccine is created very interestingly. He said public health organizations monitor people all over the world for strains of flu, they try to determine which strains will go into the yearly flu shot. He said usually they put four different strains in each year’s flu shot, ultimately being an educated guess on which will be the best protection against the flu.

“A new strain may emerge after the vaccine is created, and it may not be perfect, but again the vaccine is always somewhat helpful in reducing the severity and chances of getting the flu,” Dr. Narby said.

Dr. Narby said it’s vital people take the flu seriously this year and get their flu vaccine because he said people are able to get covid and the flu at the same time, which could be a horrible situation.
