Wiregrass physician urges people to wait to get their COVID-19 vaccine booster

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A Wiregrass physician is urging people to wait when it comes to getting their COVID-19 vaccine booster.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates a little over one million people throughout the nation have already gotten an unauthorized third shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. The agency believes this number could be even higher because that number doesn’t include those who got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Dr. Narby with Southeast Health said it’s important that everyone in the Wiregrass sits tight to wait their turn and keep in mind the resources, people, and vaccine it takes to get that third shot into people’s arms.

“We really need to be sure that we go roughly in the same order that we got our second shot so we are all able to get through it in an organized way,” Dr. Narby said.

Dr. Narby said when the time comes getting the third vaccination will boost a person’s immunity and likely further reduce a person’s chances of spreading the virus.
