ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — This Sunday has officially been designated as the day in Enterprise to remember and recognize veterans who received the Purple Heart.

On Thursday, Enterprise Mayor William Cooper read a proclamation declaring Enterprise as a Purple Heart city honoring those men and women being wounded while fighting enemy forces.

The Purple Heart was initially created as the badge of military merit by General George Washington in 1782.

Mayor Cooper was surrounded by those Enterprise residents who received the medal during the war.

Enterprise has a large segment of active and retired military, and those who served in uniform for America.
