MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (WDHN) — Midland City received $350,000 to help revitalize homes in the city.

The grant will be used to rehabilitate a minimum of 17 houses to provide safe and decent housing for low and moderate-income families.

The grant was presented to Mayor Cynthia Gary last week by Governor Ivey as she issued a total of $18 million dollars in grants.

Residents of Midland City will be asked to fill out an application if they would like to use this funding to see if they qualify. Then the application will be reviewed by southeast regional planning to pick the 17 homes

“He told me, ‘he says do you know how much you’re getting and I said no,” Midland City Mayor Cynthia Gray said. “He said did you get my email and I said no I didn’t get your email. I was at home having breakfast when he said $350,000 I said Praise the Lord because our people here in Midland City could sure use it.”

Mayor Gary says that they are thinking that the maximum amount of money used on each home will be about $20,000 for improvements.
