DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine students held a Narcan training and distribution event.
Narcan is a nasal medication that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose.
Medical students spent a few hours educating members of the community about the prescription and handing out 150 kits free of charge.
Wayne Parker, ACOM’s assistant professor of Pharmacology said this is a great way to give back to the community — by offering a life-saving drug to prevent deaths from overdoses.
“We have seen it in this area but we have seen it all across the United States. This area is not unique its a problem everywhere that’s why it’s an opioid epidemic and pain killer epidemic and it’s happening at every level at the lower social-economic level, mid and upper,” Parker said.
Parker said there could be another distribution event in the near future.
