MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDHN) — One Alabama lawmaker is proposing a bill to help small businesses, and he wants to use gas tax money to do it.
Sen. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, said he wants to take a portion of the gas tax money to create a small business stimulus fund.
The bill would limit the gas tax money would be used for only six months. Ward said this could provide up to $100 million in revenue.
“We don’t have the kind of money that the federal government does, but 100 or 150 million to help these businesses that are struggling, this would be a big help,” he said. “This is one more tool in the toolbox to help these businesses.”
If passed in the legislature, this bill would have to be voted on by the people and would be on the runoff election on July 17.
