JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WDHN) — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has released new information into the events leading to a manhunt Saturday afternoon while the search for the suspect continued Saturday evening.
Around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, law enforcement learned of an attempted carjacking in Houston County. The suspect was seen on Overpass Road in Jackson County. A deputy responding to the area saw the suspect turn into a field where he abandoned a pickup truck and fled on foot.
A female suspect, Ashley Marie Hop, was detained and identified the driver of the vehicle as Nicholas James Davis. Davis had numerous warrants out of Illinois for violation of parole, investigators said. The vehicle was stolen out of Illinois and a discarded camper was reported stolen out of Jackson County Saturday morning.
Numerous agencies out of north Florida were involved in a manhunt, including the Florida Highway Patrol, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and a K-9 tracking team from Jackson County.
Later Saturday afternoon, a homeowner informed law enforcement that a vehicle had been stolen from Wilmington Court, southeast of Campbellton.
The search for Davis continued Saturday evening. He was last seen wearing no shirt, grey and bright green shorts, and a ball cap. Davis is driving a stolen 2016 Chevrolet 2500 LTZ 4X4, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The truck is slate gray metallic in color and has a Florida specialty tag C-0LDS.
Davis should be considered armed and dangerous. Nicholas Davis is wanted by authorities after stealing a vehicle in the area around Campbellton. A manhunt ensued Saturday afternoon with law enforcement on the ground and with a sheriff’s helicopter in the air looking for Davis. K-9s were also involved in the manhunt. The suspect remains at large.
Davis is driving a stolen 2016 Chevrolet 2500 LTZ 4X4, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The truck is slate gray metallic in color and has a Florida specialty tag C-0LDS. The truck also has a black vinyl bedcover on the bed and a chrome University of Florida specialty tag with a green gator head affixed to the front, according to JCSO.
Davis is approximately 6’02” tall and weighs 260 pounds with the date of birth of December 26, 1988.
