DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The House of Ruth has owned their new home for 6 days and is already planning for some pretty big things for their new home.
The new home is located on West Troy Street in Dothan, right next to First Baptist Church of Dothan. They say the new home will provide them with more space and room for new iniatives, such as training.
“We could have possibly done it here (in the old building on North Herring Street in Dothan) . It just was not a secure area that we would want,” Executive Director of The House of Ruth, Angela Underwood said. “That’s what we want to do. More support groups, inviting more people in for training in that location, and a conference room for our board meetings. It’s just spacious and what we need.”
House of Ruth is a safe shelter and rape crisis center providing services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault within nine counties.
In addition, the House of Ruth will keep the old administrative building on North Herring Street and will use it for transitional services.
House of Ruth plans on holding an open house for their new home on October 1 to kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
