DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — The City of Dothan has once again gone above the expected collection budget for its sales and lodging tax collection, but two areas have seen significant decreases since last year.

In January, the City of Dothan brought in nearly $9.4 million dollars in sales tax revenue, which is almost $1.75 million over the projected monthly number of $7,668,937.

More people in the circle city seem to be buying alcohol since Dothan’s collection on alcohol tax had the largest increase, going up by 11.2% and making $472,804.97 last month.

The machines & manufacturing tax collection had the largest decrease since last year, going down by 21.1%, only making $90,216.35 last month. In January 2021, the machines & manufacturing tax made $114,331.13.

The Farm and Agriculture Tax collection had the second largest decrease from 2021, going down by 14.6% and making $29,722.44 last month.

In lodging tax, the city brought in $276,139 last month. The budgeted amount for January was $205,328.

The 2022 calendar year ended strong for the city of Dothan.
