MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDHN) — Two Alabama correctional officers have been arrested on smuggling and drug charges, according to a release from the Alabama Department of Corrections.

One officer worked at the Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore County before getting arrested at 10 p.m. Saturday “for attempting to smuggle illegal contraband into the prison.”

Darryl Jerome Bradley, 25, of Millbrook, started working as a correctional officer back in January 2018. Following his arrest, he resigned from his post.

Meanwhile, in Bay Minette, an officer working at Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore was arrested Monday at a local business.

Investigators reportedly charged Wiggins Washington, 50, with “conspiracy to traffic methamphetamines” after a joint investigation by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations Task Force, U.S. Marshals Service, ADOC Investigations and Intelligence Division, ALEA, and Bay Minette Police Department.

Washington began working with the Department of Corrections in October 2007. He has not resigned and awaits disciplinary actions.
