DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — City Commissioners are helping to make Dothan City School transition as smooth as possible.

The city has created a plan to help ease the traffic at the new Dothan Preparatory Academy.

First, all school buses will come in off Selma Street.

“We’re kind of making and re-stripping some areas there, they talk about 35 to 40 buses coming in,” Public Works Director Charles Metzger said.

Also, parents will now drop off students on Alice Street instead of Oak Street.

“The road actually comes in comes behind there batting cage, loops around comes back out in front of the gym so they can drop off double in the morning and then come back down Alice street,” Metzger said.

“It’s something that we have tried to address early on working with the school system, got it designed and the city is installing storm drainage right now and after the storm drainage is installed the contractor will be able to come in and building the road and stripping it and hoping to get it done before school opens in August.”

The new entrance drive and stripping are expected to not exceed over $258,000 dollars.

Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba says he and the city want to help DCS achieve their goals.

“In the end, it’s our kids and youth that are going to school and we want them to be ready,” Saliba said.
