COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — September is known as ‘Hunger Action Month’ and it’s estimated that one in six people in the Wiregrass go to sleep hungry.

With that unfortunate statistic in mind, Coffee County Commission Chairman Dean Smith along
with Wiregrass Area Food Bank Executive Director, David Hanks, read a proclamation designating September as ‘Hunger Awareness Month.’

In 2020, the Wiregrass Area Food Bank provided more than 482,000 meals in Coffee County. That includes 390 senior citizens who are part of the brown bag program.

Since being formed 31 years ago, the Wiregrass Area Food Bank has provided more than 62 million meals across Southeast, Alabama and beyond.
