Cottondale High School’s former principal arrested for inappropriate student relationship

JACKSON COUNTY, Fl. (WDHN) — On Dec. 2, The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was informed that principal Kenyonis Granger at Cottondale High School was having an inappropriate relationship with a student who was 16, and has been privately messaging the student since she was 14.

There is a mixed reaction in the community.

“I think that kind of thing comes on a lot around here,” One resident said. “It’s not the first instance we’ve heard of this actually, and I think it’s pretty messed up.”

After an investigation, text messages between Granger and the student were obtained which revealed the information to be true.

Granger started sending inappropriate messages to the student a year after being in contact with the student.

The investigation also revealed that Granger solicited or engaged in sexual conduct with a student.

“I just think it’s really sad that someone that’s in a position of power would abuse that power,” Resident Jodie Moseley said. “Especially with students that these parents are trusting him with. To look after them and not do inappropriate things with them.”

Many in the community said they trusted and liked Granger and are disappointed by his actions.

“He was a very liked principal, very easy to talk to,” Moseley said. “He was very popular, very, very popular. Seem like he had a personal relationship with all of his students.”
