“COVID is not done with us,” said Dothan pediatrician on ways to prevent rising child COVID cases

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — COVID-19 cases in children are rising at an alarming rate, according to many reports.

Since the end of July, pediatricians have seen almost a 300% increase in cases, compared to early July around this time last year.

At Southeastern Pediatric Associates, Lauren Morris shared how school and sporting events returning are playing a role in this spike.

She said the toll this virus has taken on children is tough.

“Our teens are definitely struggling with it, they’re the ones that seem to have the hardest time,” Morris said. “If your child is old enough, I highly recommend a vaccine, the vaccine has been proven to be very safe. Even though we feel like we are done with COVID, COVID is not done with us.”

The patient volume has even surpassed their busy time during flu season because of COVID cases.

Morris is pleading with all citizens to take this virus seriously. Again, get your child vaccinated if eligible and keep your mask on.
