COTTONWOOD, Ala. (WDHN) — A Cottonwood woman has been arrested after two children were found left in a hot vehicle on Monday afternoon.

The Cottonwood Police say they responded to a call where two children were left in a vehicle outside a local business that was not running. The windows were only slightly opened.

When officers arrived they summoned Cottonwood Rescue Squad who took two children, aged one and two years old, to a local hospital.

The children’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The children were left in the vehicle in direct sunlight for more than 25 minutes without adequate ventilation and had elevated body temperatures, according to Cottonwood Police.

Amanda Stefani Lukens, 31, of Cottonwood was arrested and charged with two counts of reckless endangerment and one count of carrying brass knuckles.

Lukens was booked into the Houston County Jail on a $2,500 bond. She has since been released.
