DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A Dothan man found guilty of rape and sodomy has been sentenced to life in prison.

Derrick Rhodes was found guilty of two counts of rape and two counts of sodomy in April. His life-long sentence was announced on Tuesday.

Rhodes was arrested in 2020 after a 12-year-old victim claimed she had been sexually assaulted by him in 2011.

The reported victim has since moved out of the state.

During his trial, Rhodes was found not guilty on 17 sex charges.

He will now serve his sentence in an Alabama state penitentiary.
