ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — Wednesday morning, emotions ran high in an Enterprise courtroom as a judge sentenced Erica Alexander to 17 years in a state penitentiary.

In March, a Coffee County jury convicted the 36-year-old Enterprise woman of a lesser charge of manslaughter. She was being tried for the July 2019 murder of Latosha Jones. The 31-year-old victim had been fatally shot in the back of the head.

Pike/Circuit Judge Shannon Clark ruled that Alexander will receive more than a year of time served towards her sentence due to her time spent waiting for the trial in the Coffee County Jail.

Tonight in an exclusive story you’ll only see on WDHN at 5, 6, and 10 we’ll hear from the victim’s family. They feel Alexander should have been given a life sentence.
