DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — On Saturday, a man was charged with stealing a car from a person in Dothan.
On May 14, Phillip Gregory Sloan got into a vehicle and drove away without the knowledge of the owner while in the parking lot of a business in the 300 block of Columbia Highway, according to Dothan Police.
The owner, who saw their vehicle leaving without their knowledge, asked for a ride from a stranger and had the stranger follow their stolen vehicle while they called 911.
Police say they were able to conduct a traffic stop on the victim’s vehicle and take Sloan into custody.
There is no known connection between Sloan and the owner of the vehicle, police say.
Phillip Gregory Sloan, 30, of Slocomb, was charged with first-degree theft of property.
Sloan remains in the Houston County Jail with a $30,000 bond set.
