FADETTE, Ala. (WDHN) — A suspected burglar is in stable condition after being shot by a Geneva County homeowner, police say.
The Geneva County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:16 a.m. on Friday to a call from a homeowner on Audy Lane in the Fadette community of Geneva County.
Police say the homeowner told them that he was awoken to a sound from the back door of his home. When he went to see what made the sound, with a gun in hand, the homeowner saw an unknown figure in the hallway.
After telling the intruder to leave and a struggle between the two, the homeowner shot the suspected burglar twice, according to police. The bullets hit the suspect in the leg and abdomen.
The suspect was taken into surgery Friday morning and is now in stable condition.
Though the investigation is still ongoing, if the suspect recovers, they will likely be charged with burglary, according to the GCSO.
Currently, the homeowner is not facing any charges.
