OZARK, Ala (WDHN)— After a multi-department operation that included air support and military vehicles, an Ozark man has been arrested and is accused of making a terrorist threat toward police, per the Ozark Police Department

On the morning of November 17, Ozark Police responded to a home in the 2100 block of County Road 59 after a report came in of trespassing.

According to a release from the Ozark Police Department, after officers arrived on the scene they discovered a suspect, identified as Jackie Wayne Hand, had fled to a wooded area of the property armed with a handgun. By being on the property, Hand was in violation of a protection order that was obtained due to the owner of the property filing for divorce.

Police say Hand allegedly made comments about engaging in a firefight with law enforcement. He is a retired military sniper and was in possible possession of numerous firearms.

In an effort executed by the Dale County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, those on the property were evacuated and traffic was shut down on County Road 59.

The DCSO deployed an air unit and an M.R.A.P vehicle.

After locating Hand in a barn on the property, authorities were successfully able to use the M.R.A.P to take him into custody without further incident.

According to the release, Hand was taken to the Dale County Medical Center due to his mental illness. He was later released and booked into the Dale County Jail on charges of Violation of a Protection Order and Terroristic Threats.

As of this report, Hand does not have a set bond, per jail records.
