DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A man and his mother were taken into custody on Saturday afternoon after police say the man fled a traffic stop and the mother intentionally hindered their investigation.

Officers say 21-year-old Quata Russaw, of Dothan, was driving at an excessive speed on a street in Dothan when an officer attempted to pull him over, but they say Russaw didn’t stop.

The chase then proceeded into Webb Road, Persimmon Street, and other streets before finally ending at a home at the intersection of Academy Street and Pine Street. Russaw attempted to leave the vehicle and flee on foot but was apprehended by officers from the Dothan Police Department.

Rickey Stokes News says the suspect’s mother, Tawana Turner, 43, of Dothan, arrived at the scene moments later; she left her car on the street and ran and jumped into the suspect’s vehicle as the officers were trying to arrest her son.

Both Russaw and Turner were taken into custody by police and transported to the Dothan City Jail.

Arrest reports show that Russaw is charged with Attempting to Elude, Resisting Arrest, and Appearing in a Public Place Under the Influence.

Turner is charged with Obstructing Governmental Operations.
