HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Court documents have shed new light on an early morning incident that left one man injured, a child dead and a mother charged with capital murder.

A spokesperson with MCSO told News 19 an 8-year-old boy was fatally stabbed and an adult male was also stabbed in the incident.

Mike Swafford with the MCSO said a 911 call came in around 5:30 a.m. Thursday. When deputies arrived at the scene near Village Drive, they found the adult male with a stab wound and the child had already died.

Jennifer Nicole Long, 41, of Hartselle was arrested by Sheriff’s deputies and charged with capital murder in connection to her son’s death. Long was taken to the Morgan County Jail and held without bond.

A newly filed affidavit says deputies responding to the scene made contact with a white male suffering from multiple stab wounds at a residence on Villiage Drive. The man told deputies he had been stabbed by his daughter at his residence on Colony Lane. The documents said the man told deputies his grandson was still in the residence and asked deputies to go check on him.

The document said after entering the house deputies made contact with a female, later identified as Jennifer Long, coming down the stairs. The affidavit said deputies asked her to lie down on the ground and she complied but informed deputies that the “little boy was dead.”

The documents said the deputies cleared the residence and located the juvenile lying in the bed of the master bedroom with multiple stab wounds.

Morgan County Schools released the following statement:

It is with great sadness that we have lost one of our students in Morgan County. The student will be remembered for the joy he brought to his friends, classmates, and teachers.

My condolences and thoughts go out to the family at this time.
