DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — The motion for a new trial has been denied for a Dothan man convicted of killing a 91-year-old woman.

In early November, Joe Nathan Duncan was found guilty by a jury of his peers for the murder of Mable Fowler.

He was convicted on two counts of capital murder.

Fowler was found dead in her home in 2019 after being beaten and stabbed.

Earlier this month, Duncan’s defense put in a motion for a new jury trial, believing the evidence Duncan was convicted on was insufficient.

During a hearing on Tuesday, December 20, Judge Larry Anderson denied the motion for a new jury trial after hearing testimonies from Duncan’s defense and the prosecution.
