Police: Man surrenders at Eufaula Police Department after shooting

EUFAULA, Ala. (WDHN) —  A Eufaula man turned himself into police Wednesday after a shooting that left a woman wounded, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to near the 100 block of Lake Drive around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Officers found a 49-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body in front of a home.  She was taken to a Dothan hospital.  Her condition has not been released.

Daven Mayes, 42, surrendered to authorities Wednesday morning at the Eufaula Police Department. He faces a 1st degree domestic violence charge, a news release stated.

Mayes is behind held at the Eufaula City Jail while he awaits a bond hearing.

Police believe the shooting is domestic related.  An investigation continues.
