DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — Two men have been arrested after police say they got into an altercation with officers during a shooting investigation.
At approximately 9:45 p.m., Sunday, May 14, Dothan Police rushed to the 3300 block of Denton Road in response to a firearm assault.
According to Dothan Police, when officers arrived, they found a large group of disorderly and non-compliant people, and while attempting to calm the scene, officers were able to find one person who had been shot in the leg.
Police say the officers were trying to remove the victim from the scene when the crowd became even more disorderly, and while trying to calm down the crowd and figure out who the suspect was, a man identified as James Ward Jr. attempted to grab an officer’s gun.
After regaining control of his weapon, the officer attempted to place Ward Jr. under arrest, but other people tried to stop this, according to Dothan Police.
Ward Jr., 55 years old from Headland, was eventually arrested and charged with one count of Disarming a Law Enforcement Officer. He has a set bond of $10,000.
Another man, Cameron Rodgers, 20 years old of Dothan, was arrested and charged with one count of Obstructing Governmental Operation. He has a set bond of $500.00
Police say another unidentified person has a pending resisting arrest charge.
The victim of the shooting was transported to a local hospital where he received treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The shooting is still under investigation by the Dothan Police Department.
