OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — A Texas man has been sentenced to 27 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of an Ozark child.

On Wednesday, John David Twomey, 24, of Brownwood, Texas, recieved his sentence, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Alabama.

According to Twomey’s plea agreement and court records, this sentence is the result of an investigation that began in Ozark, Alabama in October of 2021.

During that investigation, multiple law agencies in Alabama and Texas worked to find and recover a missing person. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says that led to the discovery of Twomey sexually exploiting a minor.

Twomey was indicted and pleaded guilty to the charge on April 6, 2022.

Following his 27-year prison sentence, Twomey will be on supervised release for the remainder of his life and will be required to register as a sex offender.

Related charges for Twomey remain pending in Texas.
