HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Two murder trials that were scheduled to begin this week have been moved.

The trials of Richard Wayne Thomas II and Jihad Amir Huntington have been moved to the next criminal jury term.

Thomas and Huntington are accused of shooting and killing Keontre Whatley on Highway 84 in front of Home Oil in Cowarts.

Three were originally charged with capital murder, but the case of one of the suspects was dismissed in August 2021.

The charge changed for Thomas II and Huntington from capital murder to murder after a grand jury indicted them in September 2020.

Thomas II was scheduled to stand before Judge Todd Derrick and Huntington was to stand before Judge John Steensland III at the Houston County Courthouse in Dothan.
