HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — A Houston County man is behind bars after he is accused of shooting at a group of people riding horses and hitting a woman on one of the horses in Florida.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of someone being shot in the 2100 block of Hook Way, just north of Campbellton at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Authorities say the suspect came out of a wooded area and fired dozens of rounds at a group of horse riders, hitting one victim.

The condition of the victim is unknown, but sources do say she was taken to a Dothan area hospital for treatment.

Around 4 p.m. on Saturday, the suspect was seen just across the Alabama state line crossing Highway 231 on foot, where Jackson County Sheriff’s Office called in the assistance of the Houston County Sheriff’s office

The suspect at-large, Ernest Jett, Jr., was later arrested by Florida Highway Patrol and officials say Jett Jr. did not have a weapon when he was arrested. However, the K-9 Tracking Unit was able to locate various items of evidence and, eventually, find the alleged weapon.

Jett was arrested and transported to the Houston County jail. He will await extradition back to Jackson County where he will face an Open Count of Second-Degree Attempted Murder and numerous other felony charges.
