DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan’s first charter school will be opening its doors to students and hitting the books in August, but on Saturday they gave the community and future students a preview of what to expect.
Barnabus School of Leadership held a family fun day at their school on Headland Avenue in Dothan. Currently, 60 students are registered to start the kindergarten through fifth-grade charter school in august, but school leaders say their goal is to have 300 students.
The school will be located on the campus of Greater Beulah Baptist Church
Leaders say the school will have a hand-picked culturally relevant curriculum After going through the school curriculum. Leaders hope the students learn two core values:
“One that they are a leader,” Principal of Barnabus School of Leadership, Trimeisha Cross said. “Two that they have choices and they have the ability to control their outcomes in life. They want to be successful adults, then that starts with them.
BSL will hold a second community event on February 18th, but if you are interested in registering your child for August. You can do so in person at the school or online.
The school is also looking to hire teachers, counselors, and other school staff. Those openings can also be found on their website.
