DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The new Dothan City Commissioners have been sworn into office, along with the Mayor and all other members, they told WDHN News they are excited to get out there and serve their people.
“Glad to get to work. Hoping we have a smooth transition,” Associate Commissioner of District 5 Gantt Pierce said. “I’m really excited to get to work and I really thank the people of District 5 for having the confidence in me.”
“It is incredible, exciting, bittersweet because my parents can’t be here,” Associate Commissioner of District 2, Aristotle Kirkland said “But all the love and support from the community and my family has been absolutely incredible.”
“I’m just looking forward to serving the people, answering their calls,” Associate Commissioner of District 3 Bradley Bedwell said. “Giving them great customer service. If they call, I’m going to answer them.”
It seems the new commissioners have a similar idea of how to service their district’s.
“I just want to have great communication,” Pierce said. “That’s one thing I can bring to the table is communication with the constituency and letting them know they have a voice downtown.”
“It’s not about me, it is about the people, so when I get in I’m going to go to the people, sit down and see what the people need,” said Kirkland. “Because District 2 is so vast. So I’ll go to the different communities to see exactly what they need.”
With violent crime on the rise in Dothan, the commissioners all want to do their part to lower these numbers and increase awareness throughout the community.
“We are planning talks this week on what we can do from a local government level,” said Bedwell. “And help this violent crime. And we are going to take it seriously. If we can save one life, that is great.”
