DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Many came out to Dothan Kiwanis Park to stride in hopes to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.
The ‘ Great Stride’ is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s annual walk which is the largest fundraiser.
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic condition that causes the body to create a thick mucus primarily affecting the lungs and the digestive system.
As of right now, there is no cure however there is an approved drug that corrects the underlying defective gene in 92 percent of CF patients.
This walk is to raise money to go towards research in finding a cure.
“Our goal is to raise about $32,000. We are thankful for all in credit union who raise money for us every year and they have raised for us over 10 thousand dollars this year,” CFF Senior Development Director Elaine Jones said.
From all of the walks the foundation will have this year, they hope to raise almost half a million dollars.
