DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan city commission earlier this week approved a contract with a technology company that will allow the police department to get new equipment.

The contract is an agreement with Axon Enterprise for five years totaling over $800,000 dollars for a taser-conducted energy device system.

Currently, the tasers at the Dothan police department are outdated. This new equipment will replace over 200 tasers, and will also provide training for officers who are using it.

City manager Kevin Cowper emphasized the importance of having the best trained and best-equipped police department.

“They provide excellent service to keep ourselves and our property safe so we certainly support their efforts and we wanna make sure they have the equipment that will help them do their job,” Cowper said.

No word yet on when the police department will receive those new tasers.
