DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan’s most exciting beach, keeps getting more exciting.
During Tuesday’s Dothan City Commissioners meeting, commissioners approved phase three of renovations to Water World.
Dothan Leisure Services Director, Allison Hall said the project will add new ticket windows, making wait times to get in the water park faster. In addition, a new administrative building is also planned, which will be in the front of the park, and will be used by staff and a place where visitors can rent cabanas.
Deck improvements by the wave pool and also a building that will hold chemicals are also part of this phase.
These renovations will cost the city, a little over $3 million, and officials tease that future projects to the park could include the construction of a lazy river.
“It’s just like anything else, if you want to have an exciting property you have to make it exciting, you’ve got to maintain it, you got to bring in new attractions just like we did with the slides,” Hall said.
The renovations to phase three at Water World will begin this September when the park closes for the season. Officials hope to have the project completed by April of next year.
