DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Since the summer, Dothan has been working to bring winter downtown.

Dothan Leisure Services is bringing the first skating rink to the city to make the area more family-friendly.

“We’re really excited, we think this is going to be an excellent place to come with the family, make some new memories,” Assistant Director, Kelly Stakelum, said. “It’s just a new and really cool attraction that we have going on in downtown Dothan,” Stakelum said.

This comes just in time for the holidays. The rink will be open on Foster street, starting on November 26 until January 29.

“It’s gonna be an exciting holiday season,” Stakelum said.

For just $10, this will cover your admission and skates with unlimited skating time. As residents roll through Foster street, surrounding businesses tell me the impact it will have on their businesses.

Owner of a downtown eatery, KBC, Laura Barnard says she’s thrilled about the stream of revenue it will bring.

“Let’s encourage everyone to support what the city is trying to promote, I think they’re working really hard to create a good family atmosphere down here,” Barnard said. “We’re excited.”

The rink will also bring special events like movie night to town. Officials said they couldn’t be happier to bring winter to Downtown Dothan.
