DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Last year, Houston County Commission approved a multi-use transportation study for a trail project that will stretch across all of Houston County.

The idea is to build a trail from Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine, or ACOM, to the city of Ashford.

Due to the large coverage this trail will cover, the commission will be gradually building this path in segments that should take several years to accomplish.

But as District 4 County Commissioner, Brandon Shoupe says this project will improve the quality of life in Houston County.

“When you invest in your place, invest in the quality of place, when you invest in yourselves, a trail system, which would be one of those investments, that thing lasts forever,” Shoupe said. “Now we’ve permanently improve the quality of life for all the citizens of Houston County.”

The first segment the commission is looking into is a path from ACOM to the town of Cowarts.
