Enterprise seeks to replace rec center after decades of use

The Enterprise Rec Center facility has served the community for decades — with over 3000 people currently participating in its programs each year.

The city now hopes to provide a new and improved rec center, with an aquatic center, for the community and surrounding area.

Billy Powell, director of parks and recreation for the city of enterprise, said the crack found in the almost 70-year-old pool began the process of looking into an aquatic center and new recreation center as whole.

“This community is a growing and striving and active community, and with the recreation center that we currently have, it’s done its time,” Powell said. “It’s done exactly what it’s supposed to, but we can’t keep up with the demands.”

The current rec center has been serving the community for decades — today serving thousands a year with its programs.

The city is currently in search of an architect firm to do a conceptual design study for a new rec center and aquatics.

“Last city council meeting, I gave them a quick update that I’ll be meeting with some firms to get proposals and information from them,” Powell said.

Powell said he has already spoken with potential firms and will be speaking with more.

“The mayor and council has given me permission to evaluate some architect firms to see what we can come up with to help us do us a study to help us understand what our needs are and the size of the facility and how much it’s going to cost,” he said.

The process will take about two years to complete, and Powell said he will not rest until it is.

“Hopefully we can get there and increase health and wellness and be able to provide that opportunity, that quality of life,” Powell said.
