Farley Nuclear Plant Joint Information Center are prepping people in the event of a nuclear disaster

HEADLAND, Ala. (WDHN) — In case of a nuclear disaster, the Farley Nuclear Power Joint Information Center is there to provide information and safety for Wiregrass residents.

Today, Farley gathered media outlets and emergency management agencies from around the state to discuss the purpose of the joint information center.

It will be used as a place where media outlets can go to get the most up-to-date information regarding a possible nuclear disaster.

The joint information center says that a nuclear disaster is very unlikely, but in an event that it does happen it is better to be prepared.

“And it’s important because if there was ever an event at the nuclear power plant,” Alabama EMA office of External Affairs Representative, Jordyn Elston said. “We want to make sure we know what to do. So the same way we encourage the residents of Alabama to be prepared for a disaster. We want to be prepared as well.”

The Farley Plant Joint Information Center will hold training exercises for members of the media in early next year to make sure that everybody knows what to do in the event of a nuclear situation.
