Former Alabama Speaker of the House looks to have his jail sentence reduced

News

OPELIKA, Ala. (WDHN) — Last week, former Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard asked a judge to release
him from his 28-month prison sentence.

In 2016, a jury convicted Hubbard on felony ethics charges. This past Wednesday, Hubbard’s attorneys told the court that their client is truly apologetic for his actions and asking a judge for leniency.

At this time, Hubbard has served a year of his 28-month prison sentence.

The presiding judge in the case listened to the defense motion but has not rendered a decision regarding whether or not to reduce Hubbard’s sentence at this time.
