SAMSON, Ala. (WDHN) — At a news conference in his hometown of Samson, former County EMA Director Eric Johnson announced his candidacy for the Alabama legislature.
Surrounded by family and friends at city hall, Johnson says he’s ready to tackle the issues facing the constituents of Alabama House District 87. The district covers all of Geneva County and the rapid residential and business expansion on Dothan’s west-end.
The seat is held currently by Hartford banker, Jeff Sorrells.
Besides being the one-time EMA Director of Geneva County, Johnson has served as a caregiver with SARCOA and was an economic consultant with a Dothan firm.
Johnson says he’s the best candidate because he plans to be among the people of the district listening to their concerns.
“I’m going to be a representative out among the district, I’m going to be out everywhere,” Johnson said. “I’m from Dothan, I’m from Samson, and all in between. It’s important that you go out and talk to your constituents, I think losing touch or not having touch is something that is something I can’t understand. We don’t have that right now.”
Johnson will face Sorrells in the Republican primary next May. As of now, no Democrats are running for the seat.
