Last phase of Rebuild Alabama gas tax adds two more cents at the pump

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Alabama drivers might have noticed a slight increase in their fill-up at the pump recently. A small part of that is because the last phase of Alabama’s gas tax went into effect on October 1.

Under the Rebuild Alabama Act, the tax went went up six cents in 2019 and two cents last year. The tax went up two more cents last Friday. Triple AAA spokesperson, Clay Ingram said there is still no need to worry about seeing a surge of gas prices going up.

During the COVID lockdown, Ingram said gas prices were lower because of a low demand. Now, with many restrictions lifted the demand, people are traveling again, leaving home — which is why there is an increase.

He believes this is slowly getting the economy back on track.
