GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — According to Geneva County Commissioner, Weston Spivey over the past three years he has made it his mission to give back.

With every paycheck Spivey receives, he says he gives a portion of his salary to organizations throughout the community.

Today, he gave $3,000 to the Slocomb Police Department to use for anything they see fit.

Spivey says that giving money back to the area is a great gain for the community.

“Although I’m an elected official I’m also a private business owner,” Spivey said. “So being a private business owner, sometimes I don’t need the money I make in government, and if I can use the money the taxpayers pay me to go back to people like our great police departments, our fire departments, and our front line workers, that’s always a major win for our area.”

Chief Howerton says the department will put the money toward their K-9 units.
