GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — The K-9’s of the Geneva County Sheriff’s Department have received some new gear.

Through the non-profit organization Vested Interest K9s Incorporated, the department received donations of bullet and stab-proof vests for their canines.

Geneva Sheriff Tony Helms said this is their third go-round with the organization and receiving these vests.

He is grateful for the thousands of dollars it saves the department. One vest can cost up to $2,700.

“By them being able to donate to us the vest, the carrier, so it’s a huge, huge thing for us in a small department like this to be able to have that done,” Helms said.

He is encouraging people to look up the nonprofit Vested Interest K9s and consider becoming a sponsor.
